Stage along the route via Sansepolcro
Situated between the two valleys, the Franciscan Sanctuary of La Verna is left behind, along with the sacred forests of Casentino, and the gaze turns towards the easternmost part of Tuscany, the Upper Tiber Valley.
Following in the footsteps of St. Francis, along the path that led him to Assisi, the journey continues through enchanting forests, passing the Croce della Calla until reaching the summit of Mount Calvano at 1254 meters above sea level, the highest point of the route, where wide clearings offer exceptional views. The itinerary continues through mountain passes and peaks, always ready to amaze with beautiful panoramas; scenes that seem to have come out of the brush of a painter, depicting Mount Penna, green pastures, and the ridge of Pratomagno.
In a pristine natural setting, step by step, the path descends towards Pieve Santo Stefano. Located near the borders of Tuscany, Umbria, and Romagna, the town is known as the City of Diaries, holding paper documents such as diaries, letters, and private writings, an immense collection stored in the National Diary Archive and celebrated by the Small Diary Museum. These initiatives have made over 7300 memories accessible to the curious and interested. The stage concludes at the ancient hermitage of Cerbaiolo, a sacred building donated to St. Francis and inhabited by the Franciscan friars from 1216 to 1783.
