In the green heart of Italy, the Way of St Francis offers a clearly visible and reassuring two-way route. Along the Umbrian stage, the waymarkings consist of vertical and horizontal signs with the red and white CAI signs, enhanced by the colours yellow and blue and the iconic yellow Tau, accompanied by the name of the stage.

The stretch of the Way of St Francis that passes through Pieve Santo Stefano takes the pilgrim from the mystical Sanctuary of La Verna towards the Upper Tiber Valley, crossing the woods of the Casentinesi Forests Park and the hills of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. Along the route, immersed in a landscape of beech forests, mountain paths and sweeping natural vistas, the pilgrim experiences the deep bond between nature and spirituality that characterises the Franciscan experience. Arriving in Pieve Santo Stefano, known as the "City of the Diary", you encounter a village rich in memory and culture, a gateway to the Valtiberina and a significant stage on the road to Assisi.
