The Home of Blessed Osanna Andreasi

Overview

The Home of Blessed Osanna Andreasi is a unique example of a 15th-century dwelling that has remained almost intact. Characterised by the harmony of the windows and the terracotta surrounding them, the interior features ceilings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, frescoes and decorations (15th-17th centuries), original wooden doors, marble fireplaces, and antique terracotta staircases. In the garden, among the roses, pomegranate trees and medicinal herbs, stands a loggia decorated with frescoed columns and arches, dating back to the 15th century. It is worth mentioning that this house was preserved in honour of Osanna Andreasi (1449-1505), a Dominican laywoman. Belonging to a family of nobles, she lived an active life in her home, combining her deep spirituality with a sense of civic duty and devoting herself to charity and relief artwork. Very close to the Gonzaga family, she wielded great spiritual influence on the court and the entire city. For her mysticism and virtues, she is venerated as blessed by the Catholic Church.
