Bormio
The wellness town in the heart of Alta Valtellina
In the heart of the Lombardy Alps, less than three hours’ drive from Milan, lies one of Italy’s most popular wellness paradises: we are talking about the town of Bormio, nestled in the Alta Valtellina and famous throughout Europe since 500 AD for its natural thermal springs, which are still one of the area’s main attractions. But it is not just relaxation that causes millions of people to flock to Bormio every year. It is also thanks to Bormio Ski, the large ski area that has hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships several times and guarantees all-round fun in winter and summer.
Seasoned skiers can dare to take on the adrenalin-fuelled and very long Stelvio slope, while those who want to take their first steps in the snow are spoilt for choice among 50 kilometres of pistes and some of the most stunning snowshoeing routes in Italy, such as the Sentiero delle Sorgenti and the Sentiero dell’Ables.
You can also enjoy cultural walks in the small historic centre, where you can find various points of interest within a short distance from each other, including the Church of the Holy Spirit and San Vitale Church, Alberti Tower and the Combo Bridge over the Frodolfo stream.
