A meeting point between two continents, the island of Pantelleria lies 110 kilometres off the south-west coast of Sicily. Its geographical position has enabled the development of a rich biodiversity, preserved within the National Park.
Pantelleria offers unique scenery, including Lake Mirror of Venus, named after the goddess of beauty. According to legend, Venus used to admire her reflection in the waters of the lake, one of the island’s many hot springs, before meeting the god Bacchus. Another natural spectacle worth visiting is Elephant Arch, a rock whose shape resembles a trunk.
Pantelleria is also rich in history. If you are interested in learning about the island’s past, visit the Sesi, megalithic tombs dating back 5,000 years found in the area between Mursia and Cimillia, and the Dammusi, typical constructions made of lava stone with domed roofs. On the other hand, the Acropolis, spreading over the hills of San Marco and Santa Teresa, is a precious testimony to the Punic and Roman periods.
