The first part of the stage runs gently through vast cultivated countryside, along dirt roads and paths that cross fields and slight undulations in the terrain, until you reach the vicinity of Monterosi. It is an open and bright stretch, where the view sweeps far into the distance and the path runs smoothly, accompanied by the silence of the Lazio countryside.
After passing Monterosi, the route continues through the fields, immersed in an authentic rural landscape, until it reaches one of the most evocative places in the area: the Monte Gelato Waterfalls, in the district of Mazzano Romano. Here, the water of the Treja river creates a series of drops and waterfalls in a stunning natural setting. The area is equipped and shaded, perfect for a rejuvenating break, especially on the hottest days.
The path then continues, entering the Veio Park, a protected area rich in history and nature. We follow a scenic dirt road, with sweeping views of the Roman countryside, among pastures, groves and ancient tracks that evoke the Etruscan presence in the area.
The last stretch leads progressively towards the gates of Campagnano di Roma, a village perched on a hill, whose outline looms on the horizon. The arrival gives a pleasant feeling of conquest, with the historic centre welcoming the pilgrim among alleyways and panoramic views.
Refreshment and water points are available in Monterosi and at the Monte Gelato Waterfalls. It is advisable to stock up in these places, as the intermediate sections can be isolated, especially during the hottest periods.
A harmonious and varied stage, alternating between open countryside, river landscapes and nature reserves, accompanying the pilgrim ever closer to Rome along the ancient route of the Via Francigena.
