The first stage stretches from Norcia, the hometown of San Benedetto, to Cascia, the birthplace of Santa Rita. The town of Norcia, at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains, offers spectacular views, fresh air and a gastronomic tradition based on pork meat, mushrooms and truffles. The Square of San Benedetto hosts the Basilica of the same name with its Gothic façade, and the statue of the Saint, who seems to indicate the direction to be followed. The first stretch runs through the Plateau of Santa Scolastica and, after the crossing point, descends to Cascia. Here, the Monastery and the Basilica of Santa Rita attract thousands of visitors, especially on May 22, during the celebrations in honour of the Patron Saint, known as “The Saint of the Impossible", because of her amazing power of answering to prayers.
