Along a steep track in the first stretch of the stage, among broom bushes and free-roaming animals, we can find several staging points from where to admire the splendid Lake Turano. After a short walk through the woods, we reach the 1,160 m high crossing point, to discover, in the wide valley below, the village of Pozzaglia Sabina, the birthplace of Sant’ Agostina Pietrantoni, the Patron Saint of Italian nurses. Here it is possible to visit the Saint's house and burial church. We continue towards the Piano di Orvinio, a large clearing dominated by the belfry of the nineth-century Romanesque Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano, founded during the celebrations of Charlemagne’s victory over the Saracens. Our final stop, Orvinio, within the “Parco Regionale dei Monti Lucretili”, boasts the sixteenth-century Church of Santa Maria dei Raccomandati and the octagonal Church of San Giacomo, built in 1612 on a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
