Castello Doria

Overview

In the town of Portovenere, a pentagonal fortress dominates the other structures. The most significant part dates back to the 16th century. During the 17th century, it was surrounded by a curtain wall to ensure the defence of the older buildings. The bastions provided a lookout over the sea, while the front, dating back to the 16th century, was intended to prevent possible attacks from land.
