From Civita Bagnoregio, the stage to Montefiascone is short and fairly straightforward, ideal for spending time visiting the villages you pass through. From here, the path joins the Via Francigena, continuing together towards Rome.
You leave Civita by crossing the evocative bridge-walkway and ascend to Bagnoregio. After that, you follow some paved provincial roads, some of which are busy. You have to cross the SS71 Umbro-Casentinese with great care: cyclists will follow it to Montefiascone, while pedestrians will take a detour along gravel roads and farm tracks until they meet the Via Francigena in the woods near Sant'Antonio, coming from Bolsena.
In Montefiascone, along the Cassia Nuova, is the 100 km milestone from Rome. You then reach the church of San Flaviano, also known as the "Church of the Pilgrim", mentioned by the monk Alberto, and finally the historic centre with the Rocca dei Papi. From here, you can enjoy a splendid view of Lake Bolsena, before descending and continuing definitively on the Via Romea Francigena towards the destination.
