The Sermoneta – Sezze stage of the Southern Via Francigena is a route immersed in the nature of the Lepini Mountains, with sweeping views and a wilder atmosphere than the previous stages.
You leave the medieval village of Sermoneta through stone alleys and scenic stretches, and then proceed along hilly paths and dirt roads. The route alternates between ascents and descents, with shaded stretches in the woods and spectacular openings onto the Pontine plain.
It is a stage of about 15–18 km, not very long but made challenging by the continuous change in altitude. Nature is the star: silence, Mediterranean scrub and sweeping views accompany much of the route.
The arrival in Sezze, also perched on the Lepini Mountains, offers an evocative finale. The historic centre retains its ancient layout and offers panoramic terraces from which to admire the sunset over the plain.
A stage that combines spirituality, mountain scenery and authenticity, ideal for those who love to walk away from traffic and surrounded by greenery.
