Leaving Vetralla, the route immediately enters a beautiful stretch immersed in a dense forest, where light filters through the foliage and the silence is broken only by the sounds of the forest. It is a particularly evocative section of the Via Francigena, ideal for walking at a steady pace and letting yourself be enveloped by nature.

You then reach the Church of the Madonna di Loreto, small and cosy, a place of rest and devotion for pilgrims. From here, the landscape suddenly changes: you pass through an immense hazelnut grove, typical of the Monti Cimini area, where neat rows stretch as far as the eye can see. Along the route, you'll also pass majestic monumental oaks, true green giants that tell the story of the area.

The path then leads to the fascinating Torri d'Orlando, the evocative ruins of an ancient monastery immersed in the countryside. The towers emerge from the vegetation like silent sentinels, evoking the mediaeval past of the Via Francigena.

Continuing on, you reach the delightful village of Capranica, with its compact and authentic historic centre, perfect for a break. From here, we continue towards Sutri, considered a little-known pearl of the Via Francigena.

Arriving in Sutri reveals one of the most surprising archaeological complexes in Lazio: the Roman Amphitheatre of Sutri, entirely excavated in the tufa bank, the mysterious Mithraeum of Sutri and an elegant historic centre full of panoramic views that is well worth a thorough visit.

Water and refreshment points are only available in Capranica: it is advisable to organise a good supply, especially in the warmer months.

A varied and fascinating stage, where shady woods, agricultural landscapes and extraordinary archaeological remains intertwine along one of the most evocative stretches of the Via Francigena in Lazio.
