Leaving the green area of the Insugherata Park, you cross a few urban streets until you pass Via Trionfale. Right in front of Santa Maria della Pieta begins the Monte Mario–Monte Ciocci cycle and pedestrian path: over 5 km protected and away from traffic, allowing you to approach the heart of Rome in safety and tranquillity.
Once you reach the splendid belvedere of Monte Ciocci, with a sweeping view of the city's rooftops and the dome of St Peter's, continue to the right and, between hairpin bends or stairways, you reach the old railway bridge, now transformed into a modern cycle and pedestrian walkway suspended above the city.
After crossing the bridge, a short tunnel leads behind the Vatican City. Then you follow Via Nicolò V and Via della Stazione Vaticana, passing the Porta del Perugino, until you emerge in Piazza Sant'Uffizio.
A few more steps and the Berninian colonnade appears: the entrance to St. Peter's Square marks the completion of the journey, in an atmosphere full of emotion and meaning.
