Among silver olive groves and patches of Mediterranean scrub, the route of the Via Francigena gently moves away from Bolsena, offering picturesque views of Lake Bolsena from the very first steps. The route follows dirt roads and country paths, alternating constant ups and downs that make the stage varied and never monotonous, but always immersed in a landscape of great charm.
Along the way, you can breathe in an authentic and silent atmosphere, accompanied by the scents of the countryside and the intense colours of nature. Each bend opens up new panoramic perspectives, with the lake appearing and disappearing between the hills, offering splendid panoramic views that are ideal for a short photo stop or a moment of contemplation.
The arrival in Montefiascone is particularly exciting: from the Torre del Pellegrini you can enjoy a 360° view that encompasses the lake, the surrounding countryside and, on clear days, a horizon that seems infinite. It is one of those places where the pilgrim truly feels the meaning of the journey undertaken.
There is only the possibility of refilling water in the first part of the route, so it is advisable to set off with a good supply, especially in the warmer months.
An intense but rewarding stage, combining beautiful scenery, spirituality and tradition along one of the most fascinating routes in Europe.
