Leaving Poggio San Lorenzo, we come across the ancient Roman walls and the Pontiche.
After crossing woods and hills dotted with olive groves, the route continues down to the intersection with the road leading to Monteleone Sabino, from where, via a detour, we can easily reach the centre of the village.
The stunning beauty of the nature is enriched by the numerous monumental oak trees. Further on along our itinerary, we discover the archaeological area of Trebula Mutuesca and the impressive Romanesque Church of Santa Vittoria, with its catacombs and therapeutic water well.
Our journey continues on an undulating course among orchards, vineyards and olive groves, which descends to the valley floor. From here, after visiting the Church of San Martino, we climb up towards the perched village of Poggio Moiano, where we can admire the beautiful Baronial Palace and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. Walking along the plateau, we arrive in Ponticelli di Scandriglia on the slopes of Monte Calvo.
Here we find the Franciscan Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which, for its historical and artistic heritage and enchanting panoramic location, rightfully deserved the title of “The Pearl of Sabina”.
The Church preserves the miraculous painting “The Virgin with Child” and the late fifteenth century panel “The Virgin and Child between Saints Francis and Anthony of Padua”.
