Starting from the Cathedral of Monterotondo, we cross a suggestive intact stretch of Roman countryside with easy ups and downs, till we reach Valle Ricca and the splendid “Riserva naturale della Marcigliana”.
The land on the low rounded hills is still arable or cultivated with pasture, while the slopes of the valleys, covered with oak trees, are dotted with ancient farmhouses and medieval towers. In this area, on an ancient road connecting Etruria to Campania, once stood the Latin town of Crustumerium.
From here, on clear days, St. Peter's Dome can be spotted. We finally reach Rome and, after walking a longtime in nature, we need to acclimatize to the new urban habitat.
The stage ends in front of the Church of the Guardian Angels in Piazza Sempione in the district of Monte Sacro.
