Stage on the Via Arezzo route
Turning away from the medieval walls of Anghiari, a village that embodies history, art, and good cuisine, also known for the famous battle of Anghiari, and descending from the hill that hosts it, one soon finds oneself in front of a fine Catholic place of worship, the Church of Santa Maria alla Sovara. A stone church, its origins likely dating back to the 11th century, marking the beginning of a stage punctuated by many places of faith and rich in history.
Among the scenic rural landscapes that soon become characteristic of Arezzo, the path crosses the charming rural churches of San Biagio in the Valialle area and Santa Maria Assunta, the fascinating ruins of the ancient Tarlati Castle of Pietramala, before reaching the Sanctuary of Madonna del Giuncheto, built where the Madonna appeared to a young girl.
Upon arrival in Arezzo, the city reveals its historic beauty, full of charm and spirituality. It opens its doors, revealing its heart, Piazza Grande, along with elegant palaces often housing museums, inviting gastronomic products, and traditional recipes that are impossible to resist. Not to mention its religious treasures, the Cathedral, which houses masterpieces by Andrea Della Robbia and Piero della Francesca, as well as the Basilica of San Francesco, which, in the sobriety of its architecture, holds a sacred art treasure, the famous fresco cycle by the great painter from Biturgia, Stories of the True Cross.
