Through Lazio, The Way is accompanied by clear vertical and horizontal signage. Pilgrims are guided by the red and white CAI signs combined with yellow and blue, the yellow Tau and the logo specific to the Lazio stage.

The Way of St Francis from Rome to Assisi via the Salaria branch takes the pilgrim through the unspoilt landscapes of the Sabine area and the Rieti Sacred Valley, lands which are deeply linked to the presence and spiritual teachings of St Francis. Among historic villages, crop-covered hills and ancient footpaths, the route passes through places symbolic of Franciscanism such as Poggio Bustone, where the saint announced forgiveness to the town's inhabitants, Fonte Colombo, considered the "Franciscan Mount Sinai", La Foresta and the evocative Sanctuary of Greccio, the site of the first-ever live nativity scene.
