From Rieti, we take a stretch of the Via Salaria, then walk alongside the Turano River, and reach the base of the challenging climb which leads to Belmonte in Sabina, a tiny village perched on a ridge overlooking two valleys. Through a panoramic descent, we arrive in Rocca Sinibalda, dominated by an imposing eagle-shaped castle from 1084, several times restored. From 1200 to 1500, the Fortress was owned by the Mareri, the Family of Filippa Mareri, the first Saint of the second Franciscan order, the Poor Clares.
