From Cascia, the impressive trail of Santa Rita, carved into the rocks and overlooking the Corno Stream, leads to Roccaporena, where the Saint was born in 1381. The devotional path continues up to the three hundred steps leading to the Sacro Scoglio, a rocky spur on which Santa Rita used to retreat in prayer. So intensely did she pray, that she left the imprints of her knees and elbows in the rock. Proceeding through the woods, the itinerary reaches the charming medieval village of Monteleone di Spoleto, surmounted by a castle and immersed in uncontaminated nature at 1,000 metres above sea level. Here, the “Museo della biga di Monteleone” displays a reproduction of the famous parade chariot from the 6th century BC, found in perfect condition in 1902 in a funerary mound in the area of Colle del Capitano. Unfortunately, it was almost immediately stolen and taken into the United States, where it can still be admired at the “Metropolitan Museum” in New York.
