Stage 6.A: Rieti - Greccio

Departure from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Rieti offers the pilgrim two options. You can head towards the Franciscan Sanctuary of Poggio Bustone and rejoin the main route of the Way of St Francis (stage 6). From Poggio Bustone, continue the next day to Piediluco (stage 7). Alternatively, following the information given here, you can head in the direction of the Sanctuary of Greccio. From Rieti, you head towards the Sanctuary of Greccio, where the tradition of the live nativity scene began, thanks to St Francis.

This stage, of about 24 km, alternates between footpaths and minor roads, with the only challenge being the climb to Colle Sant'Elia.

Past abbeys and villages, the walk offers unique views of the Sacred Valley and Mount Terminillo.

From Rieti, you head towards the Sanctuary of Greccio, where the tradition of the live nativity scene began, thanks to St Francis.
