Stage 6.B: Greccio - Terni

The way from Greccio to Stroncone unfolds in the silence of the mountain meadows between Umbria and Lazio.

Your walk begins with a gradual ascent, and continues on level ground among hornbeam and chestnut trees, without detours, through the meadows of Stroncone.

Along the way, you will find stone waymarkers made by the Franciscan family of Stroncone, commemorating the passage of St Bernard of Siena.

On reaching the Chapel of Our Lady of Tresto with its many votive offerings, you continue along a path that intersects the asphalt road at various points, until you reach the Church of Our Lady of Colleponte. In less than a kilometre, you will reach Piazza della Libertà in Stroncone and shortly afterwards the Sanctuary of St Francis of Assisi.

The route leads towards Terni and the shade of the valley, with views of the countryside.

Once you reach the outskirts of Terni, you come to the Basilica of St Valentine, the patron saint of lovers all over the world and of the city of Terni itself. The saint's body is still preserved here, in the original place where he was buried in the third century AD.

From here, after crossing the bridge over the River Nera, you continue until you reach the Cathedral of Terni and then the Church of St Francis.
