The Ciclovia delle Abbazie reveals treasures rich in history and culture hidden in the Marche’s rolling hills. The itinerary is a journey into the legacy of Romanesque architecture within a setting of devotion and natural beauty.
The cycle route follows the River Chient to the hinterland to discover the most important abbeys in the area.

From Civitanova Marche to Corridonia

Setoff from the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Apparente in Civitanova Marche and continue through the vibrant city centre to the picturesque marina, where you can admire murals by more than 100 contemporary artists.

Continuing on the cycle path along the southern waterfront, take the road that to the Imperial Abbey of Santa Croce al Chienti in Sant'Elpidio a Mare. The picturesque country roads take you to Montecosaro Scalo where another jewel awaits you, the Abbey of Santa Maria di Piè di Chienti with its two-storey interior.

Cross the quiet Macerata countryside to the Abbey of San Claudio al Chienti, an imposing Romanesque structure with twin towers that dominate the landscape.

The route continues to the Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve, an oasis of peace and tranquility among the hills of the Marche region, where you can have picnics and relax in peace.
In addition to enjoying the unspoiled nature, you can visit the 
Abbey of Chiaravalle di Fiastra, one of the major monuments of Cistercian architecture, built with materials from the ancient Roman city of Urbis Salvia.
Cycling through the vineyards of Tolentino along a new bike path, take a break at the 
Castello della Rancia, an imposing and majestic castle that has been guarding travelers in the middle Chienti valley for over seven hundred years.Head to the town center where you can admire the \"Cappellone\", one of the most beautiful and colorful painting of the 14th century, housed in the Basilica of San Nicola. Along the bike path, there are several stations of the Civitanova-Fabriano line equipped for bicycle transport, allowing you to easily return.
