Vicenza: the city of Palladio

Vicenza, Italian capital of goldsmithery, was also the birthplace of the famous architect Andrea Palladio who built numerous works here. In Piazza Matteotti stands Palazzo Chiericati, built by Palladio in 1551, marked by two orders of loggias and a balustrade crowned by statues. Nearby is the entrance to the courtyard of the Teatro Olimpico, the last work of the architect from Vicenza and the first example of a covered repertory theatre from the modern era.
