Carnia

The traditional houses of Carnia are interesting examples of spontaneous architecture, adapted in creative form to the needs of the owner. The eighteenth-century palaces of Tolmezzo are inspired by Venetian models, but many buildings preserve elements typical of Carnia, such as the enclosed loggia and the use of wood. In September in Tolmezzo the apple, a typical crop of the area is celebrated, in October the cheeses produced in the mountain farmhouses or malghe.
