Overview
From 22 February to 30 June 2024, Trieste will host an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to one of the most beloved artists in the history of art: Vincent van Gogh, at the Revoltella Museum.After Rome and Milan, the masterpieces of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo make their third stop in Italy within a year and a half.
Vincent van Gogh (Zundert, 30 March 1853 - Auvers-sur-Oise, 29 July 1890) had a difficult and troubled life and, like many great artists, his works were not appreciated during his lifetime but after his death. Today, he is regarded as an icon of art history, beloved by the general public. In the exhibition in Trieste, organised by the Municipality and Arthemisia, more than 50 of Van Gogh's masterpieces will be on display, enriched by extensive didactic spaces, videos, stage rooms and much more.
Compared to the Rome exhibition, the Trieste one will display, for the first time together, the two portraits of Monsieur and Madame Ginoux, the owners of the café in Arles frequented by Van Gogh. Painted between 1888 and 1890, one is kept at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo (Netherlands) and the other at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome.
