Ferentino, pre-Roman city

Walking through the narrow streets of Ferentino we discover traces of a millenary past that many towns and villages in Lazio have in common. The megalithic walls and the gates date from a pre-Roman people, the Hernici, were then rebuilt by the Romans, and again in the Middle Ages. On the ancient acropolis stands the Duomo, in Romanesque style dating from the twelfth century, one of the numerous churches present in Ferentino.
