The Lakeside of Como

Overview

Villas, parks and monuments on the lakeshore

It is impossible to visit Como without taking a walk along its lakefront, enjoying beautiful scenery and many points of historical and artistic interest that can be admired on the banks of this large body of water.

From Piazza Alessandro Volta in the city centre, walk to the Mafalda di Savoia lakefront for a splendid view of the Lario. From here, to the right, following Lungo Lario Trento which becomes Lungo Lario Trieste, you reach numerous bars and restaurants to stop for coffee or a panoramic aperitif. The romantic walk along Viale Geno leads you to Villa Geno with its fountain on the lake: you will be amazed by its over 40-metre-high jet. The valley station of the Como Brunate funicular, which will take you to the panoramic 'balcony over the Alps' in just seven minutes is nearby.

On the opposite side of the basin, to the left, you have a privileged view of one of Como's most innovative monuments: Life Electric, a modern tribute to Alessandro Volta. The Tempio Voltiano, where the famous scientist's instruments are kept, is also dedicated to him. Treat yourself to a relaxing moment by strolling through the Temple Gardens, right on the lakeshore. You then pass the Monumento ai Caduti and, along the Passeggiata Lino Gelpi, you arrive at the elegant Villa Saporiti, Villa Gallia and Villa Olmo.

A walk that will take you to all the city's most striking spots in just over half an hour and will fill your eyes with true beauty.
