The Blue Path

Overview

The best way to explore the Cinque Terre

Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso al Mare. It is impossible not to be left speechless by the disarming beauty of the Ligurian villages better known as the Cinque Terre: small hilltop towns overlooking the sea in the province of La Spezia that enchant tourists with their breathtaking views and colourful houses.

The best way to explore this slice of Liguria is by walking along the Blue Path. This gentle, approximately 12-kilometre trail is suitable for everyone, and it is so beautiful that you will forget to feel tired!

The easiest part to tackle is the first kilometre from Riomaggiore to Manarola, which is, not by chance, called the Via dell’Amore (Path of Love). From there, you can decide if you want to continue to Corniglia and then on to Vernazza. Between stops, make sure to set aside time to explore the villages, tuck into some focaccia or a plate of trofie pasta with pesto, or even treat yourself to an aperitif by the sea: after so much walking, you definitely deserve it!

The Blue Trail is not currently open to the public, but it should be fully accessible again in 2024. You have to pay for entry. You can reach the starting point in Riomaggiore by bus or train. If you are travelling by car, we recommend parking at the La Spezia train station and then taking public transport.
