Forenza

Overview

Forenza

It can be seen from afar and you have to come here intentionally, as it is not exactly a place of transit or on the way to some other destination. Surrounded by dense woodland and once a refuge for brigands, Forenza is now a delightful and peaceful perched hamlet. Blanketed in snow during winter, in spring flocks of swallows fly over it, almost at head height. It is cool in summer and attractive in autumn, with the colours, scents and flavours of the forest.

At any time of the year, however, you can always feel theatmosphere of times gone by. With the glimpses offered by the narrow stone streets, all opening onto fantastic views, and the open outer doors of the low houses, from which thesmell of cooking wafts in summer, or that of burning hearths when the temperature has fallen greatly. With the little shops, where you go to buy fruit, vegetables and local products, such as fresh pasta, cheese, sausages, cruschi peppers, or cardoncelli mushrooms in season, and take the opportunity for a stroll and a chat. With the locals, as well as tourists in summer, who meet in the main square to have coffee in one bar and an ice cream in that opposite it, so as not to offend either one but please them both.

Before you leave the village, as a souvenir and to treat your taste buds, we recommend you to buy the provolone cheese (sweet or spicy) or the precious Forenza pecorino cheese, the handmade sausages and much more. A tasty souvenir of this place.
