Consisting of several structures, including the New Procuratie, which were once the residences of the Procurators, the Palace became, under Napoleon I, the imperial residence. With the transfer of the city under Austria and later to Italy, it became an imperial-royal and Savoy residence. In 1919, Victor Emmanuel III relinquished it to the Italian state. At present, it is home to various offices.
