Val Venosta

Overview

In the heart of the South Tyrolean mountains

Amid snow-capped peaks and dense forests lies the Venosta Valley, a picturesque Alpine region with a surprisingly mild climate. It runs from the Reschen Pass, on the border with Austria, where the source of the Adige River is located, to Meran.

The area is rich in historical sites, castles, fortresses and fortifications. Among the best known, there is Castel Coira, which houses the world's largest private armoury, and Juval Castle, which is owned by the famous mountaineer Messner.

The Venosta Valley encompasses the Stelvio National Park and the Texel Group Nature Park. Among lakes and majestic glaciers, it makes for the ideal destination for unforgettable excursions. As well as lending itself to enchanting walks or mountain bike rides, along the Vinschgau cycleway, for example, you can also explore mountain peaks and high-altitude valleys, among panoramic paths and breath-taking views.

There are also many ski areas, Nordic Walking trails and paths along ancient irrigation ditches, or artificial channels that date back hundreds of years.
