Valderice

Overview

The green city of Sicily

Known as the “sustainable town for young boys and girls” thanks to its incredible expanse of greenery, Valderice is one of the most densely populated towns in the Agro Ericino, in the province of Trapani. Its unique location offers stunning panoramic views of hills, wild areas and cliffs. The most beautiful beaches include the Spiaggia di Bonagia, Spiaggia di Cortigliolo and Spiaggia di Rio Forgia, with a mix of sand and pebbles. There are both free beach and equipped areas. The area’s pristine landscapes make it a go-to destination for nature enthusiasts.

We recommend exploring the pine forest located in the hamlet of Ragosia and the municipal pine forest, which extends over a hill and features several caves and an abandoned church, while the Misericordia Urban Park offers splendid views of the Gulf of Bonagia. There, you can find the 13th-century Tonnara di Bonagia, with the well-preserved House of the Rais, tuna storage and processing warehouses, and boat house. The most iconic site is the Tower, now home to the Museum of the Sea and Fishing. The old church houses the original wooden crucifix, carried in procession by fishermen once a year.

Within a quarter of an hour’s drive, you can reach Erice, famous for its Phoenician walls and the medieval Balio Castle.
