Overview
In the Church of Our Lady of Regnos Altos, one can admire an astonishing cycle of 14th-century frescoes. Although the exact chronology of the chapel is still uncertain, recent studies suggest that the building was built around the 12th century with a series of extensions in the 14th. The cycle of frescoes on three of the four walls was severely damaged by subsequent work on the apse, the date of which is unknown. The dating of the frescoes themselves has been the subject of debate, with some scholars until recently even speculating that they were created in the 15th century. Now, however, they are believed to have been produced in the 14th century by an artist of Tuscan origin.
