Pedona Abbey Museum

Overview

After ten years of work inside the parish church, enriched by archaeological investigations in connection with the consolidation of the Romanesque crypt, an interesting museum tour was inaugurated. This route allows the traces of the ancient Roman city of San Dalmazzo, known as Pedona, to be combined with those of the Benedictine monastery of medieval origin erected on the remains of the aforementioned city. Already in the entrance courtyard, the complex layering of wall structures from different eras can be seen: the apses of the Romanesque church, dating back to the 11th century, are placed above the remains of the Longobard cult building, which dates back to the 8th century. In addition, a silver bust from 1594 (a copy of the original preserved in the church) and numerous paintings depicting Saint Dalmazzo can be admired inside the museum.
