Overview
There is not a detail of the small village of Camogli that is not an interweaving of history and the sea. The heart of the village is the small port, where the tourist boats and fishing boats dock, a place always on the move, a lively place of arrivals and departures, of embraces on the seashore. The village is a jewel of pastel colours, with the façades of the buildings accompanying those who stroll towards the sea, and from the small beaches the typical pebbles also used for the traditional black and white risseu on the church parvises, because here every building is as if it were built directly with the sea, with its elements. Guarding the coastline is still the ancient Dragonara Castle, built on the rocks overlooking the sea at the time of the Saracen invasions to defend the territory. But one event above all tells of the magic of the sea and how it is intertwined with the soul of the village: it is the Stella Maris Festival when, in the evening, thousands of small candles are lit and left floating on the waves of the sea to pay homage to the Madonna. A spectacle of moving beauty, not to be missed.
