Teatro Carlo Felice

Overview

Ancient history and great technology

Genoa's main theater is among the best known in Italy. The Carlo Felice Theater is located to the side of Piazza de Ferrari beside the monument dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi. Every year, it hosts the Opera and Ballet and Opera Sinfonica seasons as well as Recitals and other events. Inaugurated in 1828, bombed twice during the WWII and rebuilt thanks to the Gardella, Rossi, Reinhart and Sibilla’s project who saved the columns, pronaos, Latin inscription and terrace of the ancient theater, today Teatro Carlo Felice is among the most technologically advanced in Europe. From the stage tower, the technical units move four mobile stages through computerized systems while the sophisticated control rooms for filming and the extraordinary acoustics, among the best in Italy, are among the features that make Teatro Carlo Felice one of the best theaters in Italy, where emotions run deep. With its own orchestra and its own choir, the theater’s beauty comes from the aesthetic contrast between past and present where technology rules thus creating an artistic experience of the highest level. The theater is also open to those who just wish to tour it, thanks to several organized guided tours available to the public.
