Rediscovering nature a stone's throw from Rome with the 39th Monti Lucretili Ecological Cultural Marathon

Overview

On 4 June 2023, the Monti Lucretili Ecological Cultural Marathon returns to Vicovaro, after the three-year pandemic.

It was founded in 1981 by the 'Gruppo Marciatori di Vicovaro'. This small number of enthusiasts decided to organise a marathon that would run through the mountains much extolled by the Latin poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus. Their aim was to encourage sport activity as a means of cultural and psychophysical training to make better use of leisure time and rediscover nature and its values.

In time, the event was recognised by FIASP (Federazione Italiana Sport per Tutti) and FIDAL (Federazione Italiana Di Atletica Leggera) as part of the 'Parks Trail' circuit.

To create even wider interest in the natural beauty of the Monti Lucretili Park, there will be three routes: a competitive one, an amateur/Nordic Walking route (included in the FIDAL and Parks Trail calendars), and a children's route that will wind through the village.

The Marathon Village, set up in the beautiful setting of Piazza San Pietro, will be enriched by posters with historical and cultural information about Vicovaro, illustrating the vegetation and fauna in the Monti Lucretili Park, as well as an exhibition of historical photos of the Association and a large refreshment area, so people can taste the food and wine specialities of the village, first and foremost the renowned bread.

The runners will gather at 8 am while, at the end of the event, a 'Pasta Party' offered by Atletica Vicovaro will be organised for all participants.
