Lake Bracciano

Overview

A volcanic lake and lakeside villages

Lake Bracciano, in the heart of Lazio, is a volcanic lake that belongs to the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park. Not only is it a place of great natural beauty, but it also offers the opportunity to practice water sports and visit the villages dotted along the water.

Around the park there are walking and cycling trails, while a Neolithic village has been found at the bottom of the lake. We highly recommend visiting the medieval Orsini-Odescalchi Castle. At the heart of the historic centre of Bracciano is the manor house. From the village, you can enjoy spectacular views of the lake from the Church of Santa Maria del Riposo and the Belvedere della Sentinella scenic viewpoint. Also worth seeing is the 17th-century Cathedral of St Stephen.

Around the lake there are plenty of delightful villages to discover, such as Anguillara Sabazia, on a promontory overlooking the water, where you can see the Collegiata, San Francesco and San Biagio churches, the 16th-century gate and the Fontana della Terra fountain. It is also worth stopping by Trevignano Romano, built in 1220 on a hill by the lake, the Etruscan museum and the 13th-century fortress.
