With its century-long history, the Babington’s Tea Room, which is located to the left-hand side of the splendid Spanish Steps in Rome’s Piazza di Spagna, is one of the most atmospheric establishments in the Eternal City.
It was founded back in 1893 by two young English women who came from good families, Isabel Cargill and Anna Maria Babington, and immediately became a popular haunt among heads of state, aristocrats and international celebrities. It quickly became a point of reference for the English on the Grand Tour, the typical journey taken by the 19th century nobility to the most beautiful European capitals and cities.
Having survived the destruction of the great wars, the Babington’s Tea Room still retains its English-style rooms and furnishings. In addition to serving tea in the Anglo-Saxon tradition, accompanied by delicious pastries, savoury meals can also be enjoyed on the premises. The many items on sale, such as coffee and tea from all over the world, are ready to satisfy every palate, even the most discerning.
