Giardino di Monk

Overview

Culture and entertainment in the heart of Rome

In the Portonaccio area of the Casalbertone neighbourhood of Rome, easily accessible from the Tiburtina station, the Monk Club and its Garden are an innovative and alternative interlude in the Italian capital’s cultural scene. More than just a live club, it an important cultural hub with the founding principles of sharing, well-being, and the free and informed enjoyment of culture.

Taking inspiration in name and philosophy from jazz pianist Thelonious Sphere Monk, the Club offers a wide range of jazz, ethnic and auteur music, presenting itself as a space dedicated to independent projects and cultural experiences for all age groups. This all takes place in a multifunctional space without architectural barriers, to create an inclusive experience. Over 200 events are organised each year, featuring Italian and international artists. Events range from concerts to stand-up comedy, from cinema to activities for children, from literary awards such as the Strega Prize to NGO conferences, from markets to fairs, and much more.

Open-air spaces for outdoor activities such as basketball, badminton, table tennis and table football are also available, as well as stalls offering street food and a playground for the little ones. The Giardino di Monk summer centre is among the few in Rome to accommodate disabled children.

And there is still room to delight the palate. At the Osteria di Monk, created together with Poppyficio and open for lunch and dinner at weekends, you can enjoy traditional recipes from Lazio and Italy.
