Baths of Caracalla

Overview

Baths of Caracalla  - History, architecture and the essence of Ancient Rome.

Also known as Thermae Antoninianae, these baths are the finest example of imperial spas in Rome. Today one of the most representative locations in Rome, the baths were commissioned by Caracalla and in addition to their specific function as a spa for body care, they were also a place of leisure to pass the time of day, enjoy sports, stroll and study. Their extraordinary architecture was dominated in the past by the presence of marble, decorations, mosaics and colossal statues with a capacity to accommodate very large numbers of guests. Today the Baths of Caracalla are also open to visitors at night in a truly evocative atmosphere. A place as dear to the people of Rome as it is unique and astonishing for international tourism.
