A picnic in the Matese Regional Park
In the Matese Regional Park in Campania, there is a cypress forest of about 70 hectares – the largest in Italy – an ideal destination for those who wish to embark on an easy but striking trekking route and stop for a picnic surrounded by greenery. We are talking about the Cipresseta di Fontegreca, in the province of Caserta, a wild and magical area stretching from the Zappini forest to the Sava river valley.
The Cipresseta is the perfect place to spend a day outdoors with family or friends, surrounded by flowers, trees (some more than 500 years old), gushing waterfalls and crystal-clear pools of water. Walk along the path that starts at the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Cipressi and follows the Sava river.
Stop at one of the 30 river-view picnic tables scattered throughout the Cipresseta to recharge your batteries Ideal for a light lunch or a tasty snack before hitting the road again.
