Fontana del Nettuno

Closed between the Palazzo Comunale and the Palazzo di Re Enzo, recognisable for its tall battlements, stands the Fontana del Nettuno or Fountain of Neptune, one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance. Also known as the Fontana del Gigante (Giant), it is striking with its bronze statues by Giambologna, a great mannerist sculptor: Neptune with his trident calming the waves, the putti with the dolphins and the four mermaids.
