22.06.2013 - 30.09.2013
The MADRE Museum in Naples inaugurates its “Season of Rebirth” (as called by curator Andrea Viliani) Friday, June 21st.
Signaling the Museum of Contemporary Art’s new direction is the exhibit “All in One,” an exposition on Thomas Byrle that highlights the connection between city, terrain and history. The collaboration between MADRE and Brussels’s WIELS runs June 22nd – October 14th.
Also opening on the 22nd is “Boetti’s Lesson” by Mexican artist Mario Garcia Torres; reuniting video, installations, and works on paper by Torres and Alighiero Boetti, this show runs till September 30th. Then, another tour inside the museum is dedicated to Giulia Piscitelli and her "Intermedium," a display that brings together works realized from the beginning of the 1990s to today - many as-yet unpublished and underlining various aspects of the artist’s research, from fabric paintings and photographs to instatllation structures and video documents.
Accompanying the three expos is Per_formare una collezione #1 or "How to (Per)Form a #1 Collection", a work in progress that also launches Saturday, the 22nd. The project starts out as the first chapter of an idea set to expand throughout the coming year; it is destined to be a symbol and catalyst for the progressive development of the Museum’s permanent collection.
Each exhibit, beyond the event itself, holds an important role in the Museum's physical and ideological reconstruction.
