The Kiss exhibition poster.
The Historic Museum of Miramare Castle in Trieste is displaying one of the most renowned masterpieces of Italian art the world over: The Kiss by Francesco Hayez. Until 15 August 2010.
A prelude of the political events at the origin of modern Italy, the work (in its 1861 version) became the symbol of Risorgimento struggles, as it was the formal synthesis of the painter’s patriotic ideas. Beside the masterpiece, there are three rare watercolours by the same artist and a copy of The Kiss in the 1859 version. The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italy’s Unification, which will go on until 2011.
In the second half of 2010, the painting, following the stages that led to the unification of the nation, will be displayed in Genoa and Palermo and after that, in 2011, in Turin, Florence and Rome, where the celebrations will end.
The exhibition is open daily from 9 to 18.30.
Tickets cost 6 euros.
