Pompeii: Past and Present

We are now in Pompeii, the most extraordinary archaeological site in the world. We are standing in what remains of the Roman city preserved by the ashes from a volcanic eruption. The Forum was the commercial and political centre of Pompeii: surrounded on three sides by a two storey arcade - it is still possible to see the columns - it was enclosed by the temple dedicated to Jupiter in the direction of the formidable Vesuvius, still visible on the horizon.
