'Venezia Nuova' in Livorno

We are in the seventeenth century district known as 'Venezia Nuova' or new Venice, ordered by the Medici family amidst the Livorno canals as a home for the sailors and the fishermen of the town. The place still preserves the features of the original project, such as the dense network of canals, the narrow streets, the bridges, the warehouses. Continuing along the canal we can reach the Fortezza Nuova, dating from the late sixteenth century, surrounded by a moat.
