San Michele in Foro, Lucca

The splendid church of San Michele dominates the piazza on the site of the ancient Forum. It was constructed between 1143 and the fourteenth century. It is a typical example of Pisan-Luccan architecture, it has a high facade with four orders of loggias, surmounted by the colossal statue of San Michele Arcangelo. On the corner of Via Vittorio Veneto we can admire the Renaissance Palazzo del Podestà or Pretorio, with a portico on columns and large lancet windows.
