Lipari, the historical town known as Castello

The ancient Greek acropolis of Lipari, inhabited since the Neolithic era, stood in the centre of the historical settlement known as Castello. A natural fortress that preserves evidence of the various cultures that have lived here: from the Etruscans to the Greeks, from the Carthaginians to the Romans, from the Byzantines to the Arabs. The present aspect of the castle is characterised by the Spanish walls dating from the sixteenth century, which also include medieval towers and even a Greek tower.
